Why Code?

Coding is the next necessary language today for tomorrow’s future. When coding is introduced early to children, it exposes them to new ways of thinking and they learn that they do not only have to consume technology by they can create and explore with technology into a myriad of areas of interest from music to Artificial Intelligence.
 

Coding enhances the creative and analytical process in kids, It allows them to understand that any problem where on the computer can be faced if you unpack the problem in smaller pieces present easier and manageable ways of handling the situation. This also builds the kids
emotional intelligence and their capacity for handling pressure environments in their lives.

Africa Creative Coding and Learning Bootcamps

The Bootcamp is designed to engage students and teachers in creative learning experiences with different types of tools and technologies.


The Africa Creative Coding and Learning Bootcamps offer inquisitive kids and educators an environment that fosters collaboration for accelerated learning through hands-on practice that motivates creation.


Our Bootcamp is set in a structured, focused social learning environment for kids to create, experiment and express themselves under the guidance and mentorship of diverse and knowledgeable facilitators.


The Africa Creative Coding Bootcamp combines online and offline learning with various tools and partners such as Scratch, Micro bit, Makey Makey, Arduino, Makerbox, Lego, and Little Bits.

This offers the learners an integrated curriculum that breakdowns the concepts in a fun, memorable and digestible way. The networks that are built during our Bootcamps of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences that foster the true essence of digital wisdom. These networks enhance collaboration and communication amongst the learners and facilitators in and out of the classroom set-up.
 

We will facilitate the kids and educators with the necessary tools and knowledge for learning to be persistent through the coding process. They will learn from their mistakes and frustration and keep striving to reach their desired outcome.

Students will be empowered to be more creative, develop problem-solving skills, gain analytical skills, and through play understand cause and effect.

Students will engage in:

  1. Creative learning activities

  2. Computer science concepts

  3. Write code

  4. Build interactive programs 

  5. Create projects with the Internet of things devices

  6. Interact and program with robotic devices

Teachers will engage in:

  1. Creative thinking activities

  2. Discussions on the Pedagogy of creative learning

  3. Resources and curriculum discussions

  4. Share experiences

  5. Interact with tool and devices

Our participants in the bootcamp will be assigned a mentor to assist in the progression of their projects. The best projects will be sponsored and showcased the first-ever Scratch Africa Global Conference in Kenya at Brookhouse-Karen Campus on 16th,17th and 18th October 2019.
